Cape Town Minstrel Carnival 2018
The Cape Town Minstrel Carnival takes place annually on 2 January in Cape Town CBD. Each year the city comes alive with colour and dance as the minstrels parade the streets of the Mother City in celebration of the Tweede Nuwe Jaar / Second New Year. The carnival dates back to the 19th century and holds strong ties to the time of slavery in the Cape when slaves were given one day off to celebrate new year in their own manner.
Each year the minstrels puts on an impressive show in partnership with the City of Cape Town. The show is free to Capetonians and tourists and starts at the District Six area and ends in the CBD.
