Attractions at Highlands Country House

Highlands Country House has many luxurious areas where guests can read, chat, play billiards and the importance of golf to Highlands is the presence of a bent grass putting green.

Highlands Country House is a mere 15 minutes away from the city, tucked under the slopes of Table Mountain. Here you can unwind and relax. The guest house has sweeping gardens supplying the rooms with fresh flowers. Benches can be found under trees, beside the pond, on patios and on the putting lawn.

This Country House Retreat has many luxurious areas where the guest can read, chat, play billiards, sit in front of the fire in the bar, lounge, library or the resplendent Colonial smoking room. You can soak up in the sun while laying on a day bed in the Summer conservatory or for the guest who wants to keep fit or catch a tan, there are two sparkling swimming pools.

Evidence of the importance of golf to Highlands is the presence of a bent grass putting green. Clubs which are conveniently located to Highlands Country House are Royal Cape, Mowbray, Westlake, Clovelly and Erinvale and the new emerging golf courses in Stellenbosch and Paarl a little further afield are the beautiful courses at Paarl, Steenberg and Hermanus. Highlands is the perfect setting for your 19th hole! Highlands can reserve tee times at your preferred course subject to availability.

The Chef

Mark came to Highlands after many years of training and working with the best. His range of culinary delights is expansive and will suit all tastes. Highlands has suggested menus and welcome any input when requesting mealtime bookings. Mark also prepares all meals and snacks for conferences and private meals, other than those taken by guests staying at Highlands. To book for your private party, arrangements can be made through reception.

Breakfast patio

Highlands is always flooded by natural light, made available from large, long sash windows and doors opening onto the surrounding patios and expansive garden. Because Highlands lies in a very sheltered area, most meals, for long periods of time during the year, can be taken outside overlooking the lush lawns and putting green on the East side and from the breakfast conservatory overlooking the Italian garden and fountain on the South side.

Private Conservatory

Highlands has areas other than the dining room where guests can take breakfast, lunch, tea or supper. The Conservatory is one of these, shown here during the day. This area is private from the main house and when set at night with our finest silver and candles, looking over the pool and garden, are without doubt the most romantic setting for intimate entertaining.

Elegant boardroom

Our boardroom is designed for a maximum of 12 delegates. It was originally the dining room of Sir Herbert Baker's home. It still boasts the original pressed ceilings, floors and large fireplace, which still burns today. All the necessary equipment is supplied with the added bonus that there are beautiful breakaway areas such as the lounge, library, Colonial sitting room and sunroom all included in our conferencing rate.
